Oudtshoorn, 15 November 2017 – SA Army Chaplains Ministry and Choral Symposium have started an outreach program where they have nominated and pledged to make a donation to the Shelter for the Homeless. They came together, used their own money and bought food as well a deep freezer for the residence of the shelter.
Deputy Mayor Noluthando Mwati received the donation and thanked the army. “Where you have taken from, may God double it”. She motivated them to keep on doing the good work as it is a good thing to see that what you have been praying for is coming true.
The people that are now staying at the shelter is the group of people that used to stay on the sidewalk on Vredestreet. They were moved, after many months of staying on the streets, to the shelter, so that they can start having a decent life with clean clothes, food to eat and a roof over their heads. Since then, donations have been coming in and the municipality is thankful to each and every one who sees it in their hearts to make a change in other people’s lives.
“Irrespective of your political affiliation, your race or your circumstances, we must walk together and stop looking down at each other. Let’s help each other in our times of need,” added Mwati.
Col Masemola handed the donation over and said that this is a gift given out of love and not out of abundance.
Sarah Olieslager of Department of Social Development (DSD) thanked the SA Army Chaplains Ministry and Choral Symposium for the donation. DSD was part of the project that took the Vredestraat people from the street to a shelter. It will be 3 months on the 16 November 2017 that the Shelter for Homeless opened its doors.
