Veld fires erupt in Oudtshoorn

Oudtshoorn, 15 December 2016 – Veld fires have erupted in the Rust en Vrede waterfall area in the North of Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo.

Firefighters from the Oudtshoorn Municipality, Eden District Municipality and Cape Nature have had their hands full since Wednesday afternoon, 14 December extinguishing the fire. 

The fire broke out in the areas of Rust en Vrede waterfall, a tourist attraction, which is situated about 25km outside Oudtshoorn and about just less than 10km South East of the Cango Caves. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Firefighters have managed to ensure that the fire does not go to the residential areas. No injuries or damages to property have been reported, so far. The fire is still blazing and the fire fighting continues.
