Upgrading Of The Existing Oudtshoorn Hospital And Oudtshoorn Clinic

Oudtshoorn, 16 May 2023Mr Alan Wright, Social Programme Manager from the Independent Development Trust’s (IDT) Western Cape Regional Office, visited Oudtshoorn on Saturday, 06 May 2023, for a session with the Municipal Ward Councillors and Ward Committee Members on the Department of Health’s upgrades at the Oudtshoorn Hospital and Clinic.

The objective of the session was to explain the Social Facilitation process that will be implemented in support of the projects, the engagement with the community with the selection of community members to serve on the Project Steering Committee as well as the identification of community members interested in applying for the Community Liaison Officer position on the project.

The duties of the project steering committee will be to work alongside the contractor to ensure that the project is implemented on time, cost and quality. The upgrading of the hospital and clinic will create job opportunities for the local community The attendees at the session were adamant that the Steering Committee should not be influenced by politics.  The Steering Committee will be part of site meetings for the appointment of workers and also when it comes to specific skills workers should have, however, the final decision will be made by the contractor.

After successful discussions, it was decided that the steering committee will be elected at a later stage following further engagements with the ward committees.

A contractor will be appointed through a tender process managed by the IDT to upgrade the existing Oudtshoorn Hospital and Oudtshoorn Clinic situated along Park Road.
