TID Roll-Over Process – Updating Of Electricity and Water Meters

Oudtshoorn, 08 November 2022 – The Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality are embarking on rolling out the Token Identifier (TID) verification of electricity and water pre-paid infrastructure in the whole Oudtshoorn municipal area that includes Oudtshoorn, De Rust, Dysselsdorp and consumers will receive a TID roll-over code.

The TID is a process all municipalities need to embark on before 24 November 2024.  If this process is not implemented, all prepaid electricity meters based on the Standard Transfer Specification (STS) will stop accepting electricity tokens and consumers will be unable to buy electricity or insert any electricity prepaid token if the meter did not receive its TID roll-over code.

The updates are aimed at assisting the municipality to convert all existing prepaid meters to be compliant and ensure the municipal records are updated accordingly. Residents are urged to insert all outstanding meter tokens timeously in the prepaid electricity meter, before the meter receives its TID roll-over code, as units on the electricity box after the TID roll-over code is activated, will not be forfeited.

Property owners and residents are requested to provide their full cooperation when fieldworkers visit their homes and must request the following identification documents before allowing them on the property:

  • Original signed instruction letter from the municipality
  • ID tag and Identity document

For any queries on the TID Roll-over process please feel free to contact Ms Nondumiso Mjewu at 044 203 3092 or Ms Portia Sazela at 044 203 3058.
