Oudtshoorn, 09 July 2018 – The old outdated (24 years old) pumps at the Dysselsdorp WTW have been replaced with “state of the art” vertical pumps. The project value is R 2 million and is funded through a water services infrastructure grant from the Department of Water and Sanitation.
“The project was critical, as one of the main pumps that supply water to Dysselsdorp was on the brink of failure and with no back up pump available we needed act immediately, said the Municipal Manager, Mr. Allen Paulse.
Paulse also congratulated his Technical for a swift delivery of the pumps. The current delivery period for these kind of pumps in South Africa is 12 – 16 weeks but we were able to make an offer on a pump set in Gauteng; this pump set became available due to a desalination contract that was cancelled earlier.
“This was a massive project and I’d like to congratulate the technical services department for this achievement,” said Paulse.
“With this pump set we were able to replace 3 extremely dilapidated pumps with 4 energy efficient pumps which will serve us for the next 20 years. With these pumps we now have standby pumps for both the Dysselsdorp and Klein Karoo Rural Water supply scheme reservoirs,” he added.
The project was completed last week.
