Municipality Getting Ready to Open Services to the Public as Alert Level 3 Starts

Oudtshoorn, 1 June 2020 – As announced by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa last month, the country has moved to alert level 3 regulation today, 1 June 2020.

This allows a number institutions including Municipalities to open their services to the public as from today. Oudtshoorn Municipality has already drawn its work readiness plan that include ensuring adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Municipal employees, to protect both the employees and the public.

About three weeks ago, tenders were issued to get, among other PPE’s, masks and thermometers to ensure everyone’s safety in terms of the regulations is almost done. The tender process could not be finalised as the tenders received were higher than the budgeted amount for the PPE. We will have to go out on tender again to procure the much needed PPE for our workers. Please note that the services rendered during the lockdown period are not affected by the later opening of some offices.

Based on the above, it was not possible for the Oudtshoorn Municipality to open services today, (1 June 2020). The safety of our employees and the public is very important to us, we will announce which services are open to the public as and when this services are open.

However, the essential services that were operational in alert level 4 and 5 will continue. Provision and distribution of Grey water will be open on Wednesday, 3 June 2020.
