Oudtshoorn, 01 February 2017 – The Oudtshoorn Municipality wishes to confirm that an accident occurred on Friday 27 January 2017 at approximately 19h28 on the N12 between Oudtshoorn and De Rust.
An official in the cleansing department, who was driving the Opel Corsa bakkie sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital in George; he later was flown to a hospital in Cape Town due to the seriousness of his injuries.
It is routine that a report be submitted to management in events of this nature. This also applies to any damages or losses that the Municipality may incur on its properties, to ascertain the details of the incident/loss/accident and also for insurance purposes. A report must also be submitted to Avis since the vehicle is leased from them.
It happens that in some instances, that an investigation may be warranted if, based on the preliminary report, it is detected that there may be elements suggesting negligence and/or recklessness. In this case the Municipality is awaiting a report from the injured official who at this stage is not in a state to do such a report.
