Mayor’s 100 days service delivery plan to yield good results as Road repair drive kicks-off

Oudtshoorn, 15 November 2016 – The Executive Mayor’s 100 days service delivery plan gains momentum as more than 30 Streets damages are set to benefit from a R2 Million road-repair programme within the next month.  

This programme which focuses on Wards 1, 2, 3 and 7 consists of four parts:

  1. Repairing of surfaces of roads damaged by burst water mains – this project is being done by a private contractor
  2. Repairing of potholes by the Municipal technical services team
  3. Painting of street marks and
  4. Replacing of road signs

Three months ago mayor Colan Sylvester announced a 100 Plan aimed at improving service delivery in the greater Oudtshoorn.

The first street to be repaired was Oostlikeweg in the South of Oudtshoorn.

HENRA, a private contractor started with road surfacing specifically to areas where pipe bursts have occurred. This company brought along a team of experts and skilled personnel in road sealing, creating Six job opportunities in the process.

The Senior Manager for roads and storm water, Mr. Paul Muller has assured that projects with a larger job creation component would commence early next year.   

Another element of the street repair work which runs simultaneously with the road surface repair due to pipe bursts is the fixing of potholes which is conducted by the Municipal technical team. This will be followed by streets marking and repairing / replacing of street signs.

  • Buitekant & Bloem Streets
  • Melville & Alberts Streets
  • Melville & Bloem Streets
  • Melville Street No. 54
  • Smith & Tuin Streets
  • Sunset Avenue No. 4
  • Jacaranda Street
  • Jacaranda & Voortrekker Streets
  • Middel Road
  • Hospitaal Road & Buitekant Street
  • Jan van Riebeeck Street No. 201
  • Jan van Riebeeck & Church Streets

Should the repairs proceed according to plan, the contractor, HENRA, will complete the work by the 30th of November 2016.

The Technical Services Directorate Chairperson, Cllr. Johan Fourie has guaranteed the public that his department is doing its best to improve the general condition of streets in the Greater Oudtshoorn.
