Mayor wishes Oudtshoorn’s Toy Ungerer well for tomorrow’s 400m final

Oudtshoorn, 04 November 2016 – The Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn, Cllr. Colan Sylvester wishes Oudtshoorn’s Gold medallist Toy Ungerer well for tomorrow’s 400m finals at the Perth 2016 World Masters Athletic Championship in Australia.

Ungerer, who has so far been competing excellently was earlier this week applauded by Cllr. Sylvester for a sterling performance she displayed at the Championships since last week.  The Oudtshoornite scooped a gold medal on Thursday, 27 October 2016 in the 100m for women aged 70 plus. On Tuesday, 01 November 2016, Ungerer attained a silver medal in the 200m for women and on Wednesday, 02 November, she broke a world record in the heats for the 400m for women.

All eyes will be on Ungerer on Saturday, 05 November as she will complete in the final for the 400m. “I’d like to assure you that the entire Oudtshoorn and South Africans are behind you. You’ve already made us proud, tomorrow’s final is another opportunity, we wish you all the best for the 400m finals,” said Cllr. Sylvester.

In reaction to Ungerer’s victory for the Gold medal, Cllr Sylvester said earlier this week: “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Toy Ungerer for attaining Gold medal at the World Championships in Perth. This is not only her personal achievement, but a historical event for the greater Oudtshoorn.”

“We are proud of you, Toy; you set an example for our young generation as town that prides itself as the Sports Mecca in the Southern Cape.”
