Heritage Day Celebrations Hosted In Dysselsdorp

Oudtshoorn, 28 September 2021 Oudtshoorn Municipality hosted a Heritage Day event at the Dysselsdorp community hall on 24 September 2021, celebrating the different cultures, traditions and beliefs within its community.

The Heritage day celebrations themed, “Living Heritage” was attended by the deputy mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn, Cllr. Gevan Juthe, ward councillor Booi Berry, community leaders and residents from Dysselsdorp.

Deputy Mayor Juthe, the keynote speaker for the day shared the importance of our heritage as South Africans and the growth of Dysselsdorp when it comes to its tradition, culture and believes. “This is evidence that generations will keep on growing and prosper to ensure the next generation meets their needs,” Juthe said.

“Heritage day allows us to see how we eat, we live, how we sing, how we church, and how we implement,” said Patrick Blaauw, an Oudtshoorn Municipality’s social development officer, as he explained what heritage day is all about. Blaauw also mentioned that “our heritage stands on three legs, the social leg, the cultural leg and the political leg”. Blaauw also said the community is faced with the youth doing things differently. “There is so much change in Dysselsdorp. There is potential and talent in Dysselsdorp”.

The Heritage Day celebration attendees were graced with beautiful performances by Dare to Care, an organisation for the elderly, music performances, poetry and dance performance.
