Oudtshoorn, 12 June 2024 – The Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality proudly announces its financial contribution of R 263 250 towards sports development initiatives from January to June 2024. This investment towards sports development shows the municipality’s commitment to athletic talent and sporting merit within the Greater Oudtshoorn.
This contribution was made to a variety of sports codes including Tennis, Golf, Track and Field, Chess, Kickboxing, Biathlon, Tug-Of-War, Athletics, Squash, Cricket, Kickboxing, Rugby, Hockey, Netball and Darts.
Llewellyn Coetzee, Senior Manager of Strategic Services & Tourism, emphasized during a photo session with all athletes on 12 June 2024, that Sports Development aims to provide support to athletes so they can compete in National and International sports events.
The Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality, Alderman Chris Macpherson thanked all the athletes for representing the Greater Oudtshoorn and continuously working hard to put Oudtshoorn on the map. ” We as the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality want to be supportive in every conceivable way, and we want you to remember that our support to you as athletes extends beyond financial aid and includes encouragement to help you excel both on and off the field.” Mayor Macpherson also extends heartfelt appreciation to trainers, coaches, team managers, and parents for their indispensable role in nurturing athletes’ success
Athletes from Oudtshoorn excelled in various competitions, including the SA Masters Tennis in Turkey, the SA World Tennis Masters Tour Championship in Mexico, Boland Open Amateurs Stroke Play, the ASA Track and Field Championships in Pretoria, and many more prestigious events nationwide.
In conjunction with this financial boost, the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality is excited to announce the OUDTSHOORN SPORTS FESTIVAL 2024, featuring a diverse range of sporting events:
