Oudtshoorn, 7 December 2021 – The Koos Raubenheimer dam that supplies potable water to Oudtshoorn is 100% full and overflowing since the morning of Tuesday, 07 December 2021.
This follows torrential rains and floods the Greater Oudtshoorn experienced in the past few days. The rainfall measurement taken in the catchment area on Monday morning showed 38mm rainfall. More rain fell in the catchment area after this measurement and the rainfall at the catchment area could be estimated between 40mm and 50mm.
“This is the best news for the Greater Oudtshoorn since the town was recently declared a state of disaster for drought when the dam level reached a low of 30%,” said the executive mayor, Chad Louw in his reaction to the overflow of the dam.
The Municipal Technical Services’ senior manager for water and sewer, Mr Chris Swart, confirmed this morning that the Municipality is considering the lifting of the water restrictions for Oudtshoorn. The last time the Raubenheimer dam overflew was in November 2016.
