Oudtshoorn, 05 December 2018 – The Oudtshoorn Municipal Human Settlements Department won the award for Best Informal Settlements upgrading project in the National Govan Mbeki Awards 2018 held at the East London ICC on Friday evening, 30 November 2018.
This is a great acknowledgement of the hard work that the Human Settlements Department has been doing to live up to the municipality’s vision for prosperity for all. In conjunction with the Western Cape Province, Oudtshoorn municipality has date provided title deeds for 586 houses and constructed 63 house which were handed over in 2018 of the total project of Rosevalley (967 opportunities).
Two officials attended the National Govan Mbeki awards,namely Sharleen Malgas and Sylvia Tyatya who is working in Human setllements.
The nominations came after the municipality won the award for Best Informal Settlements Upgrading program for Rosevalley Phase II project on Provincial level on 31 August 2018, Cape town. There were 3 competitors in the category for Best Informal Settlements Upgrading program and Oudtshoorn Municipality won the award.
The MEC for Human Settlements, Western Cape, Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela accepted the award on behalf of Oudtshoorn municipality.
