The Klein Karoo National Arts Festival (KKNK), in collaboration with iKasi Creative Media and supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport: Western Cape and the Oudtshoorn Municipality, is presenting a free introductory film and digital media course in Oudtshoorn. If you live in Oudtshoorn, are between the ages of 18 and 35, have a matric certificate and do not work full time, you are invited!
The course will be presented from Monday 19 April to Friday 23 April 2021 and promises to be a unique opportunity for successful candidates who want to gain a basic understanding of the film and TV industry. “This introductory course is an exceptional opportunity, not only for young Oudtshoorn residents to learn new skills, we also want to tell personal stories from the Klein Karoo through videos that are recorded with a cellphone or tablet,” says Hugo Theart, Artistic Director of the KKNK. Participants will learn more about job opportunities in the industry, what skills are needed for a successful career, and how a film set works.
iKasi Creative Media is the brainchild of actress Lika Berning. Her partners in this skills programme are Lamise Inglis, with years of training experience in the industry, and Khanya Sosibo, broadcaster, voice artist and entrepreneur. “The aim of iKasi Creative Media is not only to bring practical digital media skills to rural areas, but also to tell stories and share the heritage of communities,” Berning says.
