Executive Mayor mourns the death of Jans Rautenbach

Oudtshoorn, 04 November 2016 – The Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn Cllr. Colan Sylvester expressed his condolences for the demise of Jans Rautenbach this week.

An altruistic Rautenbach also a former chairperson of the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) now Kunste Onbeperk during 2000 to 2001 passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday, 02 November 2016 in a hospital in Mossel Bay, due to complications relating to pneumonia.

“It is with great regret and sadness to learn about the loss of Jans Rautenbach, who has done a substantial humanitarian work for the greater Oudtshoorn in arts and education sectors in the communities of the Greater Oudtshoorn,” said Cllr. Sylvester.

“Oudtshoorn will remember Rautenbach for a huge role he played in the building of Vlakteplaas Primary School Vlakteplaas and De Rust during as well as his role in the promotion of arts and culture during his tenure as the chairperson of the KKNK,” Cllr. Sylvester added.

Rautenbach, an award-winning filmmaker, is former director of films like Blink Stephen (1981), One day on a rainy day (1975), Papa Lap: A story of a father and his daughter (1971) and Johnny Goodbye (1970).

Rautenbach is survived by his wife and four children.
