Construction of a new Library for Rose Valley and Sorroundings is Looming

Oudtshoorn, 09 October 2019 – The construction of the envisaged Rosevalley library is drawing nearer as the tender process to appoint a service provider is in an advanced stage, the director for Community Services, Mr. Thomas Matthee announced yesterday, 8 October 2019.

“We anticipate that the contractor will be on site either in November 2019 or January 2020. “Meanwhile, we are ensuring our community consultation processes are in place. It is important to us to take our community through all relevant stages of the construction of the library,” he said.

“Our next meeting with the Ward 6 community will take place next week, Thursday, 17 October 2019, in Rose Valley at the site where the library will be built. The purpose of this consultation will be to give a progress report to the residents of Ward 6 (Rosevalley, Rosebank, Neppon, Toekomsrus and surroundings.”

“The meeting will also entail discussions of the appointment of the community liaison officer and training opportunities as artisans for three young people in this area. The community will also be afforded an opportunity to comment on the interior design of library. The meeting will start at 18:30,” Matthee added.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Minister for the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais handed over a ceremonial check to the Oudtshoorn Municipality of R 6.5 Million. The handover was done during a Provincial Library Seminar held in Cape Town on 11 September 2019. Oudtshoorn Municipality’s director for community services, Thomas Matthee and the manager for Libraries in the Greater Oudtshoorn, Deidre Carelse received the cheque on behalf of the Municipality.

Last year August, Minister Marais handed over a ceremonial cheque of R2 million to the Municipality during a sod turning event at Rosevalley. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport has committed an amount of R8.5 million for the building of the Rose Valley Library.
