Oudtshoorn, 25 July 2018 – With the delivery of already over 600 houses in the new Rosevalley Housing Project in the past three years and construction of another 332 houses, the Council is delivering on its undertaking to prioritize human settlements as one of its key focus areas says the Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn, Cllr. Colan Sylvester.
“Phase III of the Rosevalley project is in full-swing, as underground services that comprises water, electricity and sanitation have already been completed last week. Road and Storm Water have also been completed. This project which commenced in November 2017, has now been handed over to the service provider, Asla Construction, for building of top structures (houses),” said Mayor Sylvester.
“We are thrilled to see the great strides in the delivery of houses in the Greater Oudtshoorn by our human settlement department in-conjunction with National and Provincial Departments of Human Settlements. Delivery of housing is one of the projects that shows the magnificence of a collaboration of the three spheres of government working harmoniously in services delivery,” said Executive Mayor, Cllr. Colan Sylvester.
“We as, the Council have ensured that we heed the call of our citizens to prioritize the delivery of houses and basic services. As contained in our Five-Year Integrated Development Plan (IDP), one of our main objectives is to create sustainable integrated human settlements and safe neighbourhoods where communities can prosper,” Sylvester added.
The municipal manager, Allen Paulse confirmed that it is all systems go for construction of the top structures now that the underground services have been completed. “All the pipes have been installed; water, electrification ducts, sewer pipes, storm water gullies and channels on paved roads; ASLA will now start with the construction of the 332 houses,” he said.
Rosevalley Project Phase IV will consists of 132 top structures and serviced sites (for those who do not qualify for a house). The beneficiaries are families who are part of the Rosevalley project, but were not allocated, in Phases I, II and III opportunities.
Rosevalley Project Phases I and II
The Rosevalley project started in 2014 with Rosevalley Phase I which consisted with 299 houses. All 299 houses had been successfully handed over to the beneficiaries by December 2015. Title deeds for this project were handed over in May this year by the Provincial Minister of Human Settlements, Mr. Bonginkosi Madikizela.
Phase II had a total of 335 houses. The project kicked-off with the underground Services in January 2016. Construction of top structures followed and the project was completed (including hand over to all beneficiaries) in December 2017. Title deeds of the beneficiaries are soon to be handed over within the next few weeks.
