Joint Operation Addresses Illegal Dumping In Oudtshoorn

Oudtshoorn, 17 April 2026 – The Environmental Unit and Cleansing Services Department of the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality, conducted a joint operation on Thursday, 16 April 2026, to address ongoing illegal dumping behind the Department of Home Affairs Office. In an effort to ensure the effective and safe management of waste disposal, an area has been identified for a phased project approach to address illegal dumping in open spaces.

Teams conducted door-to-door awareness campaigns as part of the initiative to educate residents on the importance of responsible waste management, and the harmful environmental and health impacts of illegal dumping. Residents are further advised that the Environmental Unit will continue rolling out door-to-door awareness campaigns across the Greater Oudtshoorn area, with a specific focus on identified illegal dumping hotspots.

Community members were encouraged to utilize appropriate waste disposal services and to report any incidents of illegal dumping to the relevant authorities on 044 203 3192.

In addition, Cleansing Services carried out a clean-up operation in the affected area, restoring the space and reinforcing the Municipality’s commitment to maintaining clean, healthy, and safe environments.

During engagements with residents, additional concerns were raised and have been noted for further investigation and appropriate action.

The Municipality calls on all community members to participate in order to protect and maintain shared open spaces. Through collective responsibility and active participation, a cleaner, safer, and more dignified environment can be achieved for all.
