Prepaid Electricity System Continues To Experience Technical Issues

Oudtshoorn, 23 February 2026 –The Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality hereby informs residents that its appointed prepaid electricity vending service provider, SwitchOne Connect (Utilities World), has confirmed that its vending system is still experiencing ongoing technical difficulties and may intermittently go offline.

Since early this morning, residents were able to purchase prepaid electricity via their banking applications and other vendors. The service provider has indicated that there might be interruptions due to the system processing accumulated transactions and stabilising. Normal performance is expected to gradually return as the backlog is cleared.

In the interim, cashier points at the municipal offices at Bridgton, Bongolethu, and the Main Building, remains fully operational and are successfully assisting residents with prepaid electricity purchases.

The cashier offices were opened shortly after 20:00 last night to assist residents. From 20:00, residents arrived to purchase prepaid electricity, and staff continued assisting customers until 00:10 this morning. The extended operating hours enabled additional support to be provided during the service interruption.

Dysselsdorp / De Rust:
Small vendors in Dysselsdorp were able to vend electricity this morning, as confirmed by residents. However, due to damage to the High Site, the Municipal Office in Dysselsdorp is currently unable to assist.

The Municipality acknowledges the patience and understanding of the community as the service provider continues to address the system challenges. Further updates will be communicated as soon as additional information becomes available.
