Oudtshoorn, 23 July 2024 – The Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality has awarded Bidvest the tender for the supply and servicing of portable toilets, following the withdrawal of Toploose’s bid, which was accepted by the municipality. This decision follows a process of careful consideration and evaluation to ensure effective service delivery for the community.
On 08 July 2024, the Human Settlement Department engaged with residents of Blackjoint, although attendance was limited to a small group, including former employees of Bidvest. Lauren Jones, the Human Settlement Manager, and Ward Councillor Tyatya were present to address the residents’ concerns and outline the upcoming changes.
The municipality encourages all residents to cooperate with Bidvest and report any discrepancies in service delivery to ensure thorough monitoring. If the public has any complaints, they are requested to submit them in writing to their respective ward councillor, who will then forward them to the Human Settlement Department for further action.
Bidvest will provide services to 20 informal settlements within the Greater Oudtshoorn area, catering to more than 1,900 structures that require mobile toilets. The service provider is responsible for the supply, rental, placement, servicing, and maintenance of portable non-flushing chemical and VIP toilets. The servicing includes the disposal of waste at the Oudtshoorn Wastewater Treatment Works, located south of town on the east side of the N12, or at an alternative site identified by a municipal official or representative. Through this partnership the municipality aims at improving sanitation services across the municipality
The service provider must service the chemical toilets a minimum of twice a week and the VIP units once a month. Additionally, the portable non-flushing chemical and VIP toilet units must be utilized approximately on a unit per five households’ basis. These units must be serviced, cleaned, sanitized, and maintained in a hygienic condition for the targeted informal settlements.
The Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for all its residents and ensuring effective service delivery.
